So a friend of mine has requested that I publish my poetry on this blog as creative and interesting reading between posts; just something for the interest of my subscribers.  I have to say that I agree with her, so be on the lookout for those!

This first poem is well-known to my friends by now.  It’s a poem that I wrote late one night during my first summer of CLS (Center for Language Studies…I’ll elaborate later).  This poem is a tribute to my father, who has been a 3rd-shifter since before I was born.  Please enjoy:

Night Watcher

As the Sun Breaks

Upon the World,

And the Birds Begin to sing,

One Man sits alone,

Solemn, Silent, and thinking.

As the Sky alters,

From pink to orange to red,

The Man looks up and Sighs,

For the Night has gone to bed.

The Blackness that once surrounded Him,

The Cloak of the World,

Has left Him open, aware,

Fearful; Beware!

For Humans stalk the Day.

Only He knows the truth, the Beauty,

The Peacefulness of Night,

When the most gifted of God’s creatures

Shine under the Moon’s faded light.

  1. You rock and are related to me – closely – I get to say I get some of the credit. I didn’t know you wrote poetry, but I

    • am beginning to think there are lots of things I don’t know about you. It is sad for me actually, because I have been such a selfish person most of my years that there are significant things about my close family that I just never bothered to figure out. I’m sorry if I ever made you feel that way. I think I will be saying that a lot in the years to come.
